IPL 2021: Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Natarajan ruled out of tournament

MUMBAI: In a big blow to Sunrisers Hyderabad, their India left-arm pacer T Natarajan has been ruled out of IPL 2021 IPL due to a knee injury.

When quizzed by TOI on the development, Sunrisers Hyderabad CEO K Shanmugham said: "Yes." Apparently, the fast bowler had been coping with the knee injury he picked up during the Australia tour, which has now flared up once again. The franchise is yet to decide on a replacement.

Natarajan played only two games this IPL, against the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bangalore before the Sunrisers replaced him with another left-arm seamer, Khaleel Ahmed, in the XI for their next two matches.

The Sunrisers now have Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Ahmed, Siddarth Kaul, Sandeep Sharma, Basil Thampi and allrounder Jason Holder in their fast bowling department.

On Thursday, after they recorded their first win of the season, Sunrisers' captain David Warner had said Natarajan was suffering a sore knee which needed scans.

Earlier, Sunrisers director of cricket Tom Moody, when quizzed on Natarajan not playing in the Sunrisers match against the Mumbai Indians, had said: "Natarajan's workload is being managed."

The 29-year-old grabbed eyeballs in IPL-2020 due to his ability to fire deadly yorkers consistently at the death.

Picked the Australia tour as a net bowler initially for limited over games, Natarajan ended up becoming the first Indian player to debut in all three formats on the same tour.

After returning home, Natarajan, troubled by the knee injury, played only one T20I and one ODI against England in February.
